In 2010, a small group of students studying Cultural and Media Education founded a theatre group with the aim of performing a play in English to brush up their English and acting skills. This was a voluntary project.
With the invaluable help and support of Professor Bettina Brandi, Professor Thomas Buchanan, Dr. Irene Buchanan, Lisa Paland, Annika Schulz, Claudia Bernhard, Johanna Baier, Ines Engebrecht, Andreas Schulze, Manuel Schmuck, Oliver Stanislowski, and the Language Centre, the play: “The Importance of Being Earnest " was finally performed on 20.06.2011 and 21.06.2011 in the TAC theatre on the campus.
Oscar Wilde's “The Importance of Being Earnest " is one of the most popular plays ever written. It is also known as a “trivial comedy for serious people." The text is clever and amusing and sparkles due to the witty dialogue of its protagonists.
Today Oscar Wilde is acknowledged as a brilliant artist , an astute commentator and social critic. His works are still popular and he is admired by people all over the world.
This posthumous recognition would make the ‘outsider’ a very happy man  for he once said, “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about”
The film was made and edited by Anouk Hartmann.
